It is important to effectively control NOx through ammonia (NH3) slip to meet legislative requirements and avoid fines. This also improves combustion efficiency, reducing fuel costs and harmful emissions. High levels of unreacted NH3 are costly, and may also have a significant impact on deposition and catalyst plugging, as well as potential corrosion of downstream equipment.
There is a growing demand to continuously measure the amount of NH3 released at a plant stack as a precursor to particulate matter of 2.5 microns. In the US, it is recommended that operators ensure their optical-based analyzers and systems meet EPA performance specification 18 (PS18). This makes uptime an essential consideration for NH3-based CEMS applications.
