On health and safety, Servomex is one of a small minority of leading businesses who are certified to the internationally recognized health and safety management standard: ISO 45001.

Product Compliance

Servomex is committed to serving the global market. To do this we recognise the need for our products to conform to regional legislations regarding Health, Safety and the Environment.

Europe (EU)
The following European Directives have been applied to all products bearing the CE mark; LVD, EMC, RoHS II and, for hazardous locations, ATEX.

LVD – EU Low Voltage Directive 2014/35/EU: The purpose of this Directive is to ensure that electrical equipment within its scope is safe to use and will not harm persons or the environment when properly installed and maintained and used in applications for which it was made.

EMC – EU Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive 2014/30/EU includes as essential requirements that equipment within its scope shall be so designed and manufactured to ensure that for:

Emissions: The electromagnetic disturbance generated does not exceed the level above which radio and telecommunications equipment or other equipment cannot operate as intended;

Immunity: It has a level of immunity to the electromagnetic disturbance to be expected in its intended use which allows it to operate without unacceptable degradation of its intended use.

RoHS II – EU Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive 2011/65/EU aims to protect human health and the environment by restricting the use of certain hazardous substances in new equipment, such as lead-based solder.

The RoHS II Directive restricts the use of the following six substances in electrical equipment:

  • Lead
  • Mercury
  • Cadmium
  • Hexavalent chromium
  • Polybrominated biphenyls (PBB)
  • Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE)

An amendment to this directive will see the introduction of further restrictions in the use of the following four phthalates from July 2021;

  • bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP)
  • butyl benzyl phthalate (BBP)
  • dibutyl phthalate (DBP)
  • diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP)

ATEX – EU ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU is an essential requirement for equipment and protective systems intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres. The Directive defines the essential health and safety requirements.

In addition the following regulations are required to comply with European law:

REACH

In accordance with European regulation 1907/2006 the European Chemical Agency (ECHA) publish a revised list of Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC) every six months.

Servomex have produced a number of REACH Customer information sheets, to provide information regarding the materials present in Servomex products. The sheets are based on reasonable enquiry of our suppliers and represents our current knowledge. Information regarding the risks associated with the SVHC identified are based on:

  1. the intended use(s),
  2. our current understanding of health and environmental risks associated with such use(s), obtained from information provided by the regulatory bodies as of the date the document was prepared,
  3. certain assumptions regarding normal and expected exposure pathways and the frequency and extent of the exposure encountered during the use of this type of product.

WEEE II

The WEEE Directive, and UK regulations, aim to minimize the environmental impact associated with the disposal of waste electrical and electronic equipment through promoting the recycling, recovery and re-use of included materials and components. Servomex products that fall within the scope of the WEEE Directive are already compliant, with the necessary recycling processes in place.

Product disposal in accordance with the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive 2012/19/EU.

  • As indicated by the mark fixed to this product, it is considered to be within the scope of the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive 2012/19/EU.
  • This product is not intended for disposal in a municipal waste stream, but shall be submitted for material recovery and recycling in accordance with the local regulations implementing the WEEE Directive.

  • Servomex products are not intended for use in private households. As a consequence, and in accordance with Article 13(2) of the Directive, the user is responsible for financing their disposal when they reach end of life.
  • All analyzers returned to the Servomex Group or one of its appointed agents for servicing, disposal, or any other purpose must be accompanied by a completed decontamination certificate.

Servomex was first certified to the International Occupational Health and Safety Management Standard BS OHSAS 18001 (now superseded by ISO 45001) on May 21, 2009.

Export Controls Compliance

It is Servomex’s policy to comply fully with all applicable export controls. Failure to comply can result in civil or criminal penalties, including but not limited to, fines, imprisonment, loss of export privileges, debarment, the revocation of previously approved licenses, seizure and forfeiture of goods.

The Company has an obligation to investigate and address reported concerns. Because of the fundamental importance of complying with all applicable export controls, employees who knowingly violate such controls, or this compliance policy, are subject to appropriate disciplinary action, up to and including possible discharge from employment.
