If you need to measure carbon monoxide (CO) for process control or safety applications, we have the gas analysis solutions required. Servomex delivers expert solutions for carbon monoxide measurements, using a range of sensing technologies for the best fit to your process. Our CO gas analyzer range utilizes technologies including Infrared, Plasma, and Gas Chromatography for low-level impurity detection, and Tunable Diode Laser or Spectroscopic sensing for combustion safety and process control. Servomex CO analyzers are available for both safe area and hazardous area operation.

Why measure carbon-monoxide?

Carbon monoxide measurements are needed for a wide range of different applications including combustion control, emissions monitoring, and gas purity. CO is frequently generated as a by-product when incomplete combustion of fuels takes place due to insufficient oxygen. It is also used in the manufacture of several chemical products. Carbon monoxide can be a health hazard, so is monitored for plant safety, and also in emissions monitoring under environmental regulations.

How CO gas analyzers work to measure carbon monoxide

Several sensing technologies are available to measure carbon monoxide. The most appropriate solution depends on the application, and the measurement range required.

  • Infrared sensing is a flexible measurement technology based on the unique light-absorbing properties of some gases, delivering a non-contact, real-time detection of the selected gas’s concentration in a mixture.
  • Tunable Diode Laser sensing is highly specific to the target gas, and offers a fast, highly stable, continuous cross-stack measurement, ideal for process and combustion control applications.
  • Gas Chromatography separates out the constituent components of a gas mixture, allowing relative concentrations to be determined. Under optimized conditions, it can measure down to parts-per-billion (ppb) levels, making it ideal for high-purity control processes.
  • Servomex’s Plasma emission detection technology was developed to provide a safer alternative to flame-based sensing for hydrocarbon analysis, and delivers ultra-low measurements. It provides highly sensitive and selective speciation, so is only suitable for trace analysis applications.
  • Spectroscopic technology combines innovative Infrared absorption spectroscopy, using advanced spectral scanning, with chemometrics, to deliver a high-quality optical measurement that is both accurate and highly stable.
