Why measure hydrocarbon mixtures?

Measuring hydrocarbon emissions with a hydrocarbon analyzer may be necessary to meet regulatory requirements, particularly in flare stack applications. In addition, it can be essential to measure hydrocarbon mixtures for process control, safety, and efficiency in a range of hydrocarbon processing, natural gas, and refinery operations, as well as gas purity applications.

Controlling hydrocarbon mixture

Three key sensing technologies are available from Servomex to measure hydrocarbon mixtures. The most appropriate solution for each hydrocarbon analyzer depends on the application, and the measurement range required.

  • Gas Filter Correlation sensing is an advanced Infrared-based measurement technology based on the unique light-absorbing properties of some gases. It performs effectively where extremely accurate, low-level measurements are needed, or where background gases may interfere with the measurement.
  • Infrared sensing is a flexible measurement technology based on the unique light-absorbing properties of some gases, delivering a non-contact, real-time detection of the selected gas’s concentration in a mixture.
  • Spectroscopic technology combines innovative Infrared absorption spectroscopy, using advanced spectral scanning, with chemometrics, to deliver a high-quality optical measurement that is both accurate and highly stable.

Our key application solutions

Servomex offers two key products for hydrocarbon mixture analysis. Industrial process control measurements can be made by the SERVOTOUGH SpectraExact 2500 , for example in the manufacture of ethylene or ethylene dichloride, using Infrared or Gas Filter Correlation sensing technology. This flexible hydrocarbon analyzer can measure in flammable gas streams, and is suitable for gas analysis in combustion, emissions, and process applications. Built around innovative Spectroscopic sensing, the SERVOTOUGH SpectraScan 2400 is configurable to meet the specific needs of various applications, including light hydrocarbon fractionation, process feedstock monitoring, flare stack analysis, and refinery fuel gas analysis.
