The role profile below gives an insight into a typical opportunity within our Engineering function.

Manufacturing Engineer

Overview of the Opportunity:

This is a unique opportunity for a highly skilled Manufacturing Engineer to join our esteemed engineering team. The successful candidate will understand the full product lifecycle – from design to manufacture – and will drive improvement in production, using lean techniques, to ensure optimization of all design and activity. A natural flair for problem-solving and root cause analysis, will enable the Manufacturing Engineer to continually improve the output of our assembly and production lines, resulting in peak performance and direct impact on business growth.

About the Role:

  • Maintaining a safe and healthy working environment whilst working closely with manufacturing teams to establish lean production lines
  • Working with engineering teams to ensure product designs are manufacturable
  • Understanding the intricacies of high-complexity, high-value, low-volume manufacturing
  • Working with project teams to develop and deliver manufacturing plans including design and documentation of the build process, production assembly instructions, training materials and measures to support OOE calculations and issue prediction/resolution
  • Ability to ‘fault find’ test equipment to component level
  • Use value stream mapping (VSM) to work with existing quality and technical standards and processes whilst supporting continuous improvement of precision/intricate assembly lines
  • Develop production line standard operating procedure (SOPs) and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM)
  • Perform risk assessment/hazard analysis activities
  • Design and implement issue detection and prevention by applied root cause analysis to reduce and eliminate recurring sources of quality issues
  • Managing suppliers and sub-contractors for the design and build of test jigs/fixtures including commissioning of test equipment

About your Talent:

  • A successful track record of working as a manufacturing/production engineer – understanding the full life cycle from design to manufacture
  • Experience of improving efficiencies of precision/intricate assembly lines
  • Demonstrable experience in process improvement and new product introduction/development (high value/complexity, low/medium volume)
  • The ability to interpret and communicate complex data/information into meaningful terms for other teams such as engineers and assembly technicians
  • Solid experience and knowledge of lean manufacturing techniques and implementing lean projects
  • Practical knowledge and experience with test equipment design and control software
  • Relevant technical knowledge and analytical skills from within a similar sector/discipline
  • Degree or HND (or equivalent) in an engineering discipline
  • Previous experience working with optics, micro-engineering, micro-components, surface-mount technology would be a distinct advantage
  • Experience of debugging techniques and an understanding of technical drawings such as dimensions, tolerances and 3rd angle projections would be desirable
  • Expertise of Machinery Directive, PFMEA and establishment and maintenance of TPMs would be hugely beneficial for this opportunity as would AutoCAD / SolidWorks
