Production Manager

Name: Jimmy

Job title: Production Manager

Location: Boston Technical Centre, US

Why did you choose Servomex?

I worked for Delta-F Corporation for 15 years before it was acquired by Servomex 5 years ago.  At first I was a bit nervous of what changes were to come and not knowing much about my new employer.  All of my worries were quickly nullified after a few conversations with upper management.  They had a vision of what this newly attained company was capable of doing and shared that vision with us all.  It didn’t take long for me to want to part of that vision.

What is a typical day for you?

Being a production manager for the USTC, the days are both very challenging and demanding, but also very rewarding.  Not many days are typical when dealing with highly technical instruments in such a competitive industry.   My day starts and ends with communication. First it is huddling with my team members, talking about the day’s outlook.  We talk about any potential issues that could occur during the day, schedule new orders, and lastly talk about any possible systemic or process changes to enhance output or product performance.  Second, communicate globally with other Servomex business and technical centers to answer any questions or concerns on either delivery or service based issues.  This could entail simple order status queries to more technical questions on analyzer performance in the field with different applications.  Some could be answered easily, then some may require a collaboration of team members, engineers, and managers.  Third, after the morning information is gathered, the management team gets together to discuss any cross functional issues that may exist and work together to find timely solutions.  It is extremely important in manufacturing for the entire team to be working to achieve clear defined goals.

When all of the day’s communications have been concluded, the information is used to set up a daily, weekly, and monthly production plan that is tweaked when necessary and aligned with the goals for the facility and company. Tying this in with a full facility reconstruction, Servomex Business Systems training, and continuous improvement projects that are also part of my daily activities, you can see how demanding the job can be at times.  In the end, looking back at all that has been accomplished, the steps it took to get there, and the pride the team feels is definitely the most rewarding part of my job.

How has your career developed at Servomex?

I could not be happier with the career path I am currently on with Servomex.  In the last 5 years I have had 2 promotions and have been included in multiple training courses that grow me personally as well as make me a more valuable asset to the company.  The management staff has helped me immensely by defining clear and concise goals and objectives along the way.  With Servomex growing rapidly, I am excited to see what the future holds for me and the challenges that have yet to come.
