Job description:

Overview of Opportunity:

To ensure that a new production line, including all designs, tooling and processes, is in place to deliver rate production in line with the current plan. The successful candidate will manage the early stages of production set-up and start looking at design vs. process and how to apply ‘best practice’ for introducing the new line. They will also input on process improvements including a review of existing practises and fit-for-purpose assessment of jigs/fixtures and test equipment.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Maintaining a safe and healthy working environment whilst working closely with Manufacturing to establish lean production lines
  • Working with Engineering to ensure product designs are manufacturable
  • Working with project team and operations to develop and deliver manufacturing plans including the design and documentation of the build process, production assembly instructions and training materials
  • Use value stream mapping (VSM) to optimise manufacturing/production processes
  • Perform risk assessment/hazard analysis activities
  • Managing suppliers and sub-contractors for the design and build of test jigs/fixtures including commissioning of test equipment

Essential Skills, Experience and Education:

  • A successful track record of working as a manufacturing/production engineer (or closely related role)
  • An understanding of the intricacies of high complexity, high value, low volume Electro-Mechanical manufacture
  • An understanding of the full life cycle from design to manufacture
  • Related experience of improving the output of precision/intricate assembly lines
  • Knowledge and experience of DFM and PFMEAs
  • The ability to interpret and communicate complex data/information into meaningful terms for other teams such as engineers and assembly technicians
  • Experience and knowledge of lean manufacturing techniques and implementing lean projects
  • Practical knowledge and experience with test equipment design and control software
  • Relevant technical knowledge and analytical skills from within a similar sector/discipline
  • Degree or HND (or equivalent) in an engineering discipline

Desirable Qualities:

  • Previous experience working with optics, micro-engineering, micro-components, surface-mount technology, cell-based manufacturing
  • Experience of debugging and fault-finding techniques
  • An understanding of technical drawings such as dimensions and tolerances with an understanding of how things are put together
  • Working Knowledge of Machinery Directive
  • AutoCAD/SolidWorks

Location: Crowborough, East Sussex

Hours: 38 hours per week

Contract: 6 to 9 months
